
In India, which is expected to be the second largest mobile market in the world in volume by 2010, Nokia has become the first equipment vendor to produce both mobile devices and network infrastructure equipment.
Nokia also has manufactured over one million handsets in India. Commercial production of mobile handsets began at the Nokia facility in India on January 2nd 2006 and has produced over one million handsets in India to-date.
Nokia has been a catalyst regarding the growth of mobile technology in India, from the first GSM cell call 10 years ago on a Nokia mobile phone over a Nokia-deployed network.
The addition of a manufacturing facility in India furthers Nokia’s commitment to the market.
Nokia will invest close USD 150 million in its facility in India which will support the skyrocketing need for network infrastructure and mobile devices in the Asia Pacific region.
