Think Minority Report. Think Harry Potter. Think it’s not possible. Think again.
Touted by James Cameron as having found the “Holy Grail of Advertising”. A company in Ottawa, ON by the name of XYZ-RGB has developed video posters that will knock your socks off.
A few years in secret development and over $25 million later the company has crafted video posters that draw power from white light and can display mini movie clips packed with 1280 frames of video.
That 1280 frames translates into roughly 10-12 seconds of film embedded into a sheet thin as paper. According to Cory Tibbits, it all came together when XYZ-RGB acquired XYZ-Imaging back in July of 2006.
Currently, he says the company is working to have the posters featured in projects slated to be released later this year and that the company is in talks with major studios to upgrade to XYZRGB technology, replacing old school movie posters.
XYZ-RGB is also in talks to have the posters featured during the 2008 Olympics. At first members of the Olympic Committee were skeptical but after seeing the technology first hand, talks have intensified.
As of right now, XYZ-RGB is focused on using their existing relationships with Hollywood, developed through 3D scanning and imaging sevices (Lord of the Rings, Batman Begins, King Kong), to market the video posters.
If things go according to plan, when you visit your local cinemaplex, it will be a scene reminiscent of Minority Report. As the technology improves Cory says the potential for its use is limitless, “With tiny white LEDs, you could even see CD’s and DVD’s take advantage of this.
Because their server was being hammered XYZRGB took down the videos, however Cory was kind enough to point out new links and we’ve uploaded a few of the videos on YouTube.
Visit XYZRGB for more info or to sign up for their newsletter. A few videos are below. Watch the eyes on the alien!
